Barangaroo Remediation
KAASA Group contributed to the Barangaroo Remediation clean-up efforts by providing trucks to transport contaminated soil and spoil from the site to the appropriate hazardous waste disposal facilities.
While not the most technically difficult job we have undertaken, the logistics of this project were particularly challenging. Due to the inner-city location of the site and the hazardous nature of the material we were transporting, we had to ensure strict adherence to all necessary protocols and regulations throughout the operation.
About the Project:
The Barangaroo Remediation is part of the larger Barangaroo urban renewal project, which aims to redevelop the area into a world-class waterfront precinct. The development includes a commitment to be carbon neutral, water positive, and to create zero waste emissions.
The redevelopment plan includes the creation of a financial and retail hub along the waterfront, providing around 23,000 permanent jobs and 3,500 residences, transforming Sydney's harbour foreshore.
Sydney Metro City & Southwest
KAASA contributed to the Sydney Metro, the biggest public transport project in Australian history. The metro adds 66km of standalone metro railway to Sydney's transport network, accommodating more than 100,000 extra customers every hour.
The project is divided into two major stages: Metro Northwest and Metro City & Southwest. The Metro Northwest stage was completed in mid-2019, while the Metro City & Southwest stage, which commenced excavation in late 2017, was planned for completion in 2024.
Project Scope:
The Metro Northwest line features 15km of twin tunnels, 4km of elevated skytrain, 23km of new metro line, 8 new stations, and 5 upgraded stations. The line connects the T1 line at Epping to Sydney's Northwest.
This critical infrastructure serves an area expected to grow by 200,000 people, taking the population of Sydney's North West to over 600,000. The combined Metro projects represent an investment of approximately $20 billion.
Western Sydney Airport
KAASA Group's contribution to the Western Sydney Airport upgrade involves the removal and management of contaminated soil. This massive infrastructure project requires precise handling of hazardous materials in accordance with strict environmental and safety protocols.
According to the airport's environmental impact statement, comprehensive measures are in place for the management of contaminated material, including on-site containment and off-site disposal to approved facilities. The project involves significant earthworks, with up to 1.8 million cubic meters of soil being moved to level the site.
Project Delivery:
The Western Sydney Airport Remediation Action Plan outlines detailed procedures for managing contaminated soil throughout the project lifecycle. The CPB Contractors ACCIONA Joint Venture is delivering the Western Sydney International Airport Bulk Earthworks project.
This critical infrastructure project will transform Western Sydney, creating thousands of jobs and providing essential aviation capacity for Sydney's growing population and economy.
